Socotra Adventure – Itinerary and Highlights
The first day (Friday) (L, D)
After you arrive at Socotra Island Airport, you will be picked up and transferred to the Hadibo Hotel. After lunch, you will go for an excursion to Wadi Dingehen. On your way back, you can swim on the white sandy beach of Deleisha. Dinner and overnight are at Hadibo hotel.
The second day (Saturday) (B, L, D)
Your adventure begins at 7.00 am with a car trip through the Dicksam plateau (approx. 900 m. above the sea). You will start trekking for 3 hours until you arrive at Tinnier. Tinnier is a large open plateau with green grassland with nomads herding cattle. It is also the viewpoint to view the whole island. After lunch, you continue trekking for more than 3 hours to reach the protected area of Scant, where you will appreciate the diversity in flora and fauna of this community (dominated by the wildly beautiful and verdant Haggier Mountains). You’ll also enjoy your first encounter with local wildlife. Dinner and overnight camping are at Scant, PA.
The third day (Sunday) (B, L, D)
The second day of trekking begins by slipping among the Higgher Range Mountains. This extraordinary journey will introduce you to the natural wonders of this island. After walking through the exhibition of the Dragon’s Blood tree, we will stop at Rocab Fermihen from where we will continue hiking down to Deresmoiten village. Dinner and overnight camping in Deresmoiten village.
On the fourth day (Monday) (L, D)
Deresmoiten walks through the Dragon’s blood tree forest until you meet the cars. After you meet the vehicles (cars), you will be transferred to Daerhu canyon. After lunch, you will swim in the fresh swimming pool and explore the area. Dinner and overnight camping at the Daerhu canyon.
The fifth day (Tuesday) (B, L, D)
The cars will take you south in the morning, where you will see the Indian Ocean at Aomak beach. After enjoying the whole day next to the beach, you will visit Dogub cave briefly and return to Aomak beach for camping. Dinner and overnight camping in Aomak beach.
The sixth day (Wednesday) (B, L, D)
Today a new adventure tailored for you. You will be driving with 4×4 among the giant pristine sand dunes of Zahik and Hayf. You will travel west, taking a break off for a picnic launch at Wadi Difarhu. Through typical villages and lush green vegetation with many birds, you will make your way to Hadibo. Dinner and overnight are at the Hotel in Hadibo.
The seventh day (Thursday) (B, L, D)
No activities are planned for the morning. Spend your time exploring the town of Hadibo and its typical market or visiting Socotra Women Association for handy crafts and souvenirs. You can visit the nursery to observe native trees. After lunch in the restaurant, you will drive to Homhil protected area, home to the inhabitant forests of the Dragon blood tree and Frankincense tree. Dinner and overnight are at Homhil PA campsite.
The eighth day (Friday) (B, L, D)
In the morning, you will drive to Dihoof in the Momi area. This enormous area is renowned for its breathtaking lush green landscape and picturesque sceneries. After enjoying the virgin countryside and staying with the nomads and the ancient people of Socotra (where you can expect the warmest of welcomes as they share their traditional lifestyle), you will return to Homhil. Dinner and overnight are at Homhil PA campsite.
The ninth day (Saturday) (B, L, D)
After breakfast, you will begin trekking to Wadi Al Shifa (hiking down for 3 hours). You will see incredible surrounding panoramas, a beautiful swimming pool and the wild water of the Arabian sea. The cars meet you down in the Wadi. You will drive east to Arher beach. It is a narrow area containing enormous silver sand dunes and home to a freshwater river from the top of the mountains that meets the sea. Here you can swim in crystal sea water and enjoy a shower in the freshwater simultaneously. Dinner and overnight camping at Arher beach.
The tenth day (Sunday) (B, L, D)
Today you will enjoy the whole day next to the beach – swimming and sunbathing. If you seek adventure, you can visit the beach of Ras Irsal. You’ll have your lunch at Arher and enjoy watching and relaxing in the fresh running water of Arher beach. Fresh fish will be caught and barbequed to be ordered for dinner. Overnight will be under the clear sky decorated with stars at the beautiful beach of Arher.
The eleventh day (Monday) (B, L, D)
Today you’ll drive from Arher beach to Hoq cave. You’ll hike for two hours until you arrive at the cave gate. You’ll need one hour and a half to explore the cave and one hour to hike down to meet the cars. After an exhausting trip, you’ll drive to the marine protected area of Dihamri. Dihamri is a uniquely protected coral reef that offers excellent snorkelling. It is one of the best dives for certified divers that Socotra Island provides. It has tremendous opportunities to see parrotfish, Moray eel, Rays, Sea urchins, etc. This shallow reef will let even the inexperienced snorkeler enjoy its beauty. Never touch the corals in the marine protected area as this would cause irreversible damage. Dinner and overnight will be at Dihamri marine protected area campsite.
The twelfth day (Tuesday) (B, L, D)
Today you will spend the morning snorkelling in the Dihamri. Dihamri is filled with more than 200 fish species and 4 of the 5 coral species inhabiting the island. In the afternoon, you will head to Ayhaft canyon – the place on the island known for its various plantations. You will spot rare birds and wander around the waterfall canyon before returning to your hotel in Hadibo for dinner and overnight.
The thirteenth day (Wednesday) (B, L, D)
From Hadibo, we drive to Qalansiya to look around this charming and picturesque fishing town with its traditional houses and narrow alleyways. We then go to the protected area in Detwah lagoon, renowned for its spectacular landscape and expansive endless beach area. Sting rays can be seen in the lagoon, so be careful when swimming. Enjoy the beach or swim in the clear crystal water. There is also an extensive array of sea birds in this location. After witnessing the fabulous sunset and a delicious dinner, you will stay overnight at the Qalansiya campsite.
The fourteenth day (Thursday) (B, L, D)
The last leg of this remarkable journey will be an excursion to Shoab beach, where a boat trip awaits you at Detwah lagoon. You will be cruising while many genital dolphins of the Indian Ocean leaping right next to the boat and squadrons of Socotra Cormenons, sea Gulls, and Grey Herons birds will be seen flying or nesting on the precipices. You’ll see carryon through a magnificent rock face and clear sea until you arrive at Shuab beach. After you enjoy swimming in the clear sea and observing dolphins, we will drive the boat back to Qalansiya. Dinner and overnight are at Hadibo Hotel and Restaurant.
The last day (Friday) (B)
We will pick you up in the morning at Socotra Island Airport and you will board your flight back to the mainland.
What makes Socotra Adventure special?
From the minute you reach Socotra Island, you’ll realize this will be awesome! The wild, empty beaches, mountain views, and unique wildlife are all the more enticing when you know you will have them all to yourself.
The outstanding geographical feature of Socotra Island is its long pristine coastline and endless empty sand beaches watched by the warm water of the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean.
In regions with abundant and attractive plant and animal life, we provide excursions via traditional modes of transportation rather than large safari-type vehicles or motorized boats. This minimizes our impact on Socotra rare species’ native habitat.
You have to come to feel and see this incomparable landscape yourself. You will never forget those few days of an exceptional break from your daily routine.
